Matthew J. Belcher
Matthew Belcher is a partner at Aleksy Belcher and co-founded LegalRideshare with Bryant Greening in January 2016. He has practised in Illinois for 32 years and is currently authorized to practice.
The public register also records one disciplinary matter, from 2005. It's set out in full below, because a bar check that only reports good news isn't a check.

Reading this fairly
Four things the record itself establishes, and we'd rather state them than let the bare word "censure" do the work:
- It is 21 years old. The censure took effect in September 2005, twelve years into a career now in its thirty-second year.
- Censure is the least severe published sanction. ARDC's own definition, above, says it does not affect a lawyer's authority to continue practising. It is not a suspension and not a disbarment.
- The conditions were satisfied within two months — a professionalism seminar, completed by November 2005.
- Nothing since. The register shows no further public discipline in the twenty-one years after.
And one thing the record doesn't resolve. The conduct concerned a settlement check endorsed without the other lawyer's authority, and a written settlement statement not provided to a client on a contingent fee matter. Those are the mechanics of a rideshare injury claim — a contingent fee, a settlement, a statement of what you're owed. We're not going to pretend that's off-topic on a site about hiring someone to run exactly that process.
We're also not going to tell you what to make of it. It is two decades old, the sanction was the mildest available, the conditions were met, and twenty-one years of practice have followed without another entry. That's the whole record. It's yours to weigh.
Why this is here at all. We publish "no public record of discipline" on Greening's profile as a verified fact. That claim is worth nothing unless we publish the other result when we find it. The badge on this page means we checked — not that the check came back clean.
Background
Belcher is a partner at Aleksy Belcher, a Chicago personal injury firm, and has been licensed in Illinois since 1993.Verified
In January 2016 he and Bryant Greening set up LegalRideshare as an independent entity focused solely on rideshare and gig-economy injury claims, while both continued to practise at Aleksy Belcher. The ABA Journal profiled the venture in August 2017, reporting that Greening would run LegalRideshare day to day while Belcher moved between the two firms.Verified
Speaking to the ABA Journal at the time, Belcher framed the rideshare question as a sociological one as much as a legal one, and argued the model could extend beyond Chicago to places underserved by public transport or taxis.Verified
